Misiek and tetraparesis

Misiek, a 12-year-old dog, was brought to the Teodorowscy Clinic with tetraparesis. During the examination, the patient was fully conscious and the cranial nerves were normal. When an attempt was made to stand him up, the dog involuntarily lay down on his sides. His spinal reflexes were normal and pain sensation was preserved. Pain and discomfort were visible during neck flexion. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed the cause of the neurological deficits. In the cervical section at the C4-C5 level, Hansen type IV (AHNCNPE) was visible as a white hyperintense disc mass. In the coronal projection, the disc material was arranged in the shape of a flying seagull, which is why this type is commonly called the seagull sign.
